Have you ever seen one of those sale letter that contain a lot of hype? You probably have run into one of those headline that promise you a super rich lifestyle like we are greedy people!

Is all that hype really necessary?
I think not and let me explain why I think that. Would you agree with me if I said that most prospect and internet users are just average people like you and me trying to make a decent living? and that these people aren’t expecting too much out of their life?
They are just trying to make some extra money to cover the house payment, money for food, and the unexpected expenses that pop up every now and then.
Most average people don’t really care if they make $10,000 a month or not, otherwise more people would be rich. They just want enough money to pay the debts and have a little extra to spend on themselve.
So making up all that hype won’t really affect us buyers because most of us are used to living this average life and do not expect anything big. As long as you give us a reasonable promise, we will be happy since we just want enough to survive and make it for tomorrow.
Out of curiosity I want to ask:
Would YOU be happy making $100 each day working around 3 hours a day? Do those hype headlines that you read on sale letter affect you at all in any way?

Somehow I just cannot agree with these overly hyped sales letters. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like out to over promise and under deliver.
However, the sad fact is that it seems to work with the majority of people.
I have a blog, but I really just like to focus on delivering good value content. I believe and I hope that this principle can enable earning a good living as well.

Sean - I hate those make you rich type letters too.
And although I wouldn’t be happy just making $100 a day, I realise that most people, as you say, just want to pay their bills and have a little extra.
But, I think there are also a heap of people out there who want something for nothing - hence the success of the lottery. And these get rich schemes appeal to these types of people.

Here are my thoughts on the subject at hand….
Most people dont really care about the money, but rather the lifestyle that they perceive the money can buy them. Money infact is just a tool, the end result is what can be done with the tool.
The reason people fall for so much of the fluff is that
a) it is passed off as a once in a lifetime oportunity and they think that this could be THEIR moment.
b) they think that THEIR moment can be leveraged through money.
It all comes down to perception. That is the key ingredient in situations like these.

I’d be more than happy making that kind of money with that little time invested. Fact of the matter is that no one can consistently make that kind of money without serious effort. Usually many, many hours that aren’t paid. This goes for internet moguls or the kid who mows your neighborhood lawns.
The only effect that overly hyped headlines get from me is a bit of laughter.

I think they are working, otherwise people wouldn’t use them. It plays with peoples emotions and greed, and I’m not saying it is right or wrong - but it makes good business sense.

I think that sums up your traditional long hypey IM letter quite well. They’ve been around forever it seems and as others have said, they obviously still work on a good number of people looking for “their moment” as Bunk put it.

Hi Sean,
I’m not at all a fan of those hypey sales letters. I’m much more low key in the way that I promote my business.
That being said, there’s no way I could “live” on $100 a day (that’s only 36K a year).
Now, if we’re talking about an Extra $100 a day … that’s not a bad part-time income for 3-hours work.
… although sadly, some people might even find that to be “hype”.
To some extent, I think “hype” is in the eye of the beholder.

Yeah, I would be happy.
But I would be more happy making $200 a day!
Some people will spend all of the life chasing the get rich quick schemes and never meeting success, while others will put forth the hard work and make it happen.

Hmm, no I would not be happy making just a $100 in one day but I did make $180 in 10 minutes with a text link ad. I made over $400 in five hours thanks to affiliate marketing. I was happy and wanted to make more.

As I’ve once said a penny earned is a penny saved. Making $100 a day would cover the cost of your domain plus hosting for the year. You would still have enough left to drive or take a bus to Mc Donalds for a value meal!
