Read this if you are a user of StumbleUpon and need more targeted and long lasting traffic. You will learn why I do not use StumbleUpon as my main source of traffic and how you can get higher quality traffic from a better and more simple method.

I signed up to StumbleUpon about 2 months ago and did not use it frequently at all. I signed up because of hearing all the recommendations from many top bloggers. I used SU mostly when I was asked to or when I notice the SU button or when I read something really good. I have had good result from it but I am not an active user at all and there is 2 reasons for this:
- Too many uninterested traffic. What I mean is that the majority of those visitors will leave your site within 30 seconds. I know because most of my traffic are from StumbleUpon and my stat show that they leave within 30 seconds of arrival.
- Low quality traffic. Most of these traffic are not targeted and they are just browsing through the channel. I have read about optimizing your blog for StumbleUpon traffic. I have tried to give my visitors a great first impression but I do not think I can optimize my blog any further to make an even better 1st impression. Any suggestion here would be appreciated.
I do use StumbleUpon once in awhile because it increase my rank. I have had a little over 1000 visit from SU already this month in only 6 days.

An alternative to StumbleUpon
This method is very effective and every top webmaster and Internet Marketers use it to get targeted traffic. You will also get great backlink - which will increase your PageRank and you know how important PR is to making money on a blog.
I just learned this method 2 days ago and applied it. I was very happy to see that it work in hours and if I did it enough time over a long period of time- I can get 5-10 thousands more targeted visitors more per month. The cool thing about this is that it will last long and grow exponentially.
The method to getting targeted traffic
We are basically going to use your blog post and submit it to Article Directories. We will submit our articles to only 18 Articles Directories each day and it will start to grow on its own from there.
1. Setting it all up. You will need to sign up to the Article Directories first:
- Ezinesarticle
- SearchWarp
- iSnare
- IdeaMarketers
- ContentDesk
- Buzzle
- ArticlesFactory
- ArticlesBase
- ArticleDashboard
- ArticleAlley
- Amazines
- GoArticle
Article Directory that does not require registration:
Squidoo is not an Article Directory but you need to sign up as well to get more exposure. Squidoo is popular and it only takes a minute.
Step 2. Creating your articles. This is the best part and will take some effort and time. We are going to use your blog posts as an article to submit or you can create another one. We will have to rewrite it though because no duplicate content allow.
You need to rewrite your original articles 19 times so that it is not a duplicate yet provide the same value. We will not be submitting all these articles to just one popular directories but to all 18 of the Article Directories above and one to Squidoo which makes 19.
I recommend you rewrite each one manually and keep them unique. This is not a lot of work because you are a writer - aren’t you? I mean you are blogging and blogging require writing skills
Step 3. Optimizing your articles. This step is crucial and if you do not follow it then all the work you done will not pay off big time. You want your article to be read many times and you want people to click on your link.
- Optimize the title. Make your title catchy and bold. Do whatever it takes to create curiosity and interest in that viewer. Do include your main keyword in your title.
- Optimizing the body. You need to make it easy for them to read by using bullets and short paragraph. Also mention your keyword as many times as possible but do not overdue it. Remember not to include a link in the body.
- Optimize your resource box. This one is crucial to your success because you want them to click to your site. Offer the readers something free in your resource box and include your website link in original state (http://www.WarriorBlog.net) and in a hyper-linked text (Make Money). You want to do this because it will help increase your blog PageRank. Offering them something free will get them to click most of the time because they are targeted readers.
Step 4. Start submitting. Now that you have 19 unique articles for 18 Article Directories and Squidoo - submit them all to each one.
Final Conclusion
Do this for every useful article that you post on your blog and have over 300 words. Doing this one hour per day can pay off big time in the future. Imagine having hundreds of back-links to your blog and with all those traffic
This is a very very very good way to get traffic from so little work. All it takes is about one hour a day and the payoff is huge. I highly recommend anyone who is not getting at least 500 visitors per day to implement it. I am so confident on this that I am expecting 1000 visitors per day by next month and gradually increasing.
You can also use this technique to promote your affiliate product but there is some risks involve which I will discuss later or I will tell you in the comment section if you ask. You can also use this technique to build a list - which is very smart. There is so much possibilities here.

I’ve seen other people recommend article marketing a lot but I’m having a hard time getting my head around it. Once I’ve put in the work to write a good post on my blog, it seems much harder to then re-write it many times over in such a way that it still seems unique.
Still, I guess I can’t really comment until I’ve tried it. Perhaps I’ll try it with one post and see how that goes.

Sean - Great advice. I haven’t used Article directories myself, but when I do I’ll definitely use these tips. I really enjoyed the resource box tip. It’s similar to your article on video submissions to social networks.
@ Caroline - You shouldn’t have to rewrite the entire article word for word. You should be able to change a few words around and get by. Change in the beginning since crawlers and bots will start from top to bottom.
- Title’s do they have to be changed as well?

There’s a program called Artemis Pro (you can but it through ClickBank) that lets you create three different versions of an article and it uses those 3 versions to create hundreds of articles that will not contain duplicate content. Basically it takes 1 paragraph for 1 article, another paragraph from another article, an so on. It also submits the articles automatically. I haven’t used it in a long time, but it seemed to do the job of avoiding duplicate content. It’s still time consuming though.

I’d thought of trying this method much before reading this article, but I was lazy and afraid it would be a waste of time, hence I never put it to the test. I’m so glad that someone else has done the hard work, haha!
Now all I have to do is applying the technique to my own needs.
I’m curious: what are the risks involved in the promotion of affiliate products with this method?

Look like not too many bloggers are doing this

Thanks Karen. Well, all of the top Article Directories NO NOT allow affiliate link at all. You can not redirect to an affilite link also because if they catch you, then you will be suspended or ban from the site. There is one way I know how to get around this but it is very hard to explain here (maybe I will post about it later).
Steven, I use Jetspinner and it work quite well too, thank you for your suggestion.

Because of this hoopla of the web 2.0 emergence, people have been taking the short road when it comes to publicizing their website. I mean, who can blame them, that’s exactly what web 2.0 does.
But little do we forget that if we want to build a powerful website in the future, we have to go back to the basics. And article syndication it is.
This is probably one of the most useful article I’ve seen in awhile.

What’s the statistics for referral traffic from these directories which you have submitted? And regarding backlinks, do you think that Google might ignore these backlinks considering its functions?
October 8th, 2007 at 3:43 am -
Sharon said:
Pablopabla, Google actually considers these one way links as very good links.
I even use “canned” articles for my various websites from time to time and I pull them out of article submissions. I give them good links from some of PR4 - PR6 blogs. When done properly you can get some really *sweet* linkbacks if you submit very good articles.

Excellent excellent article, Sean - and one that I recommend highly - I have not submitted as many articles as I would like to have done so, but from the very few that have been out - I have seen quite a bit of results in terms of traffic and (especially) backlinks. The hard work might put people off, but I would say in this case, it will pay off for most.
Stumbled!

Thanks for your input Sharon. The thing is, I am sure Google will find out sooner or later (if not already) what these directories are all about. Knowing how they are treating the TLAs, they just might look deeper into this in future.
Just being cautious, that’s all

Thanks Pablo for your advice but I am a little confuse here: you make it sound like these article directories aren’t good to use
Thank you YC - You are too kind

@ Pablo - These are article directories which have been around for many years - and the articles are often reviewed to ensure quality before the directories publish them. So as Sharon mentioned, Google does rate these links on a higher regard compared to paid links.

I’m sorry if I’ve made my views sounding as if the directories are not of good use. On the contrary, I am sure they contain a wealth of information and topics for readers to digest. I am just cautious about how Google view these backlinks and also wondering whether it actually bring in referral traffic. Some kind of stats would be beneficial.

Pablopabla, The new generation of web publishers are just after make-money-quick and get-a-visitor-rush schemes. These directories are what you would call dinosaurs of the internet industry, but it does the job right.
I’m not sure you are aware that when you post an article with a directory that it can be picked up by other websites a million times over. So, I don’t have general stats to give you. It’s unique to every article that is posted.
Just an example - one of my old articles from three years ago have been picked up and talked about other websites and this article alone has generated over 500,000 clickthroughs (if not more) and have revenued me at one point about a thousand dollars in contextual advertising a day.
But then, you have to know how to write for your masses. That’s a totally different story entirely.

Thats very impressive Sharon, I too know some people who have made over $9000 from one article that he wrote for an affiliate program in about 9 months - and it is still bringing him sale every month.
I hope writing 9-19 articles per day will get me this kind of result in a few months
Thank you for your thoughts PabloPable! It did cause me to think about it

Ironic that I found this blog through SU, and then you tell me it’s not so great.
SU is a strange beast, and it can take some getting use to. Golden rule is not to stumble your own posts, but encourage others to do it for you. That carries far more weight with the algorithms they use, and even easier now there’s a ’send to’ option. I’m a fan of SU, can you tell?October 10th, 2007 at 9:50 pm -

IMHO, StumbleUpon and article marketing are both fantastic. If you want traffic, use SU. If you want backlinks, use article marketing.
StumbleUpon does send targeted traffic a lot of the time, because it sends people to sites they’re interested in. And according to my Analytics, SU visitors on my site stay for an average of two minutes, and I’ve received five figures in SU visitors total. That’s valuable traffic!
However I’ll be linking to this in my next roundup because article marketing is wonderful as well. Don’t place all your eggs in one basket, I say. Bloggers must implement dozens of techniques!

I’ve been using articles to market my website and blogs for a year or so now and they are a great way to build traffic and inward links to your site.
Not only will you often get a visit from the person reading your article via your link in the resource box - that article can also be picked up and used on another site (with your link intact) so it builds more inward links etc.
There’s literally thousands of free article directories out there (though you’ve listed some of the most popular) along with programs that can help make the article submission process a little easier - it’s still mostly manual to do it, but it can save time etc.
Just make sure you read and understand the terms of each directory (minimum word count, no affiliate links, amount of links in resource box etc)
Even one article can go a long way toward getting you plenty of targeted traffic

Submitting your articles to various article directories would help you get the exposure fast. Some would prefer using article submitters to ease their work. Nevertheless, if you are still a newbie in submitting your articles, why not try submitting it individually? There are lots of free article directories in which you can submit your work.
