Checking yours statistics is something all bloggers do daily. Statistics are the measurement of your success and while this is true, some bloggers have developed a bad habit of checking their stats dozens of times every day. You might just be one of them – so why do you do it and what is the solution?

You are desperate and depress
Why would someone check their stats 10-20 times a day? Chances are that you are doing it too and you will be amazed at the amount of people who also check their stats so many times a day.
There is only one reason why someone you would check your stats this often, and that is because nothing is happening. This is common among the novices who check their stats so frequently and are desperate to see some action.
If you are someone who check your stats so much and do not see any result- then just stop. You are going to become so depress and desperate if you continue to do this. Each time you look at the same result – you will start to feel sad and lose motivation. I still remember how I kept checking my stats every hour back then and wishing someone would buy.
It is inevitable that newbie bloggers or IM will not get the result they want quickly. Newbie cannot stand to see the number zero and want quick result or else they get disappointed.
Build momentum and create inertia
If you want result then you first must take action and get the ball rolling. Looking at your stats is not going to change a thing. Stop reading so much and starting DOING. Stop trying to get your hands on every book out there and I am too guilty of this long ago. I think too many bloggers nowadays are doing too much reading on JohnChow or ProBlogger.
Maybe because they feel better by seeing other succeeds and is just too lazy to try. I only used JohnCow nad ProBlogger as an example but in general we all read too much and take too little action.
Break the habit by using logic
Every time you think about checking your stats ask yourself if it will make a different or not. Will looking at the number of subscribers you have change the amount? Will looking at your Adsense earning change it? I do not think so.

Checking stats is addictive and a waste of time. Set aside a time each week for analyzing stats - and stick to that time. Thanks for the good post!

I used to have this problem. I check 2 - 3 times a day now, and that is still too much! It should be once a day to see your final stats for yesterday.

Good point Sean. I used to be a terrible stats checker. Now, I check them no more than once a day, and then it is only to find out where my traffic is coming from to see what marketing activities are working.

I know everyone doesn’t check them daily. I only started checking mine this past May. I’ve been blogging for almost three years. I only check mine a few times a week. Yesterday was the first time I checked them in a few weeks.
